Solidus, against the vendors it actually competes with
One page per competitor. Every fact sourced.
Solidus Verify
The wedge. Incumbents sell the check and re-run it every time. Solidus issues a W3C Verifiable Credential the user keeps, so the next relying party verifies a signature instead.
- vs SumsubSumsub sells the check. Solidus issues a credential the user keeps and re-presents — so the second relying party never re-runs it. Different product category, different cost curve.sumsub alternative →
- vs OnfidoOnfido is an enterprise incumbent with Entrust distribution behind it. Solidus is a different category: the check happens once and the credential travels.onfido alternative →
- vs PersonaSolidus competes on whether the verification you already paid for travels to the next relying party.persona alternative →
- vs VeriffVeriff's per-session price compounds with every re-onboarding; ours doesn't, because the credential travels to the next relying party instead of re-running the check.veriff alternative →
- vs Stripe IdentityStripe Identity's own architecture locks its output to your Stripe account. Solidus issues a credential the user holds and can present anywhere — a portability difference, not a feature-count fight.stripe identity alternative →
Solidus Auth
Incumbent CIAM rents you your own users, per month, forever, and the directory lives in their tenant. Solidus is DID-native — the credential belongs to the user.
- vs Auth0Auth0 rents you your own users, per month, forever, and the directory lives in their tenant. Solidus is DID-native — the credential belongs to the user. We are nowhere near Auth0 on breadth, and that is the trade.auth0 alternative →
- vs WorkOSWorkOS turns enterprise SSO into a $125/month line item per customer connection; Solidus's DID-based credential carries the same federation handshake at protocol cost — but WorkOS ships this today, self-serve, and Solidus's version is tested code behind an admin gate.workos alternative →
- vs ClerkSolidus's argument is standards compliance and credential portability that Clerk structurally doesn't have, not a better sign-up form.clerk alternative →
- vs Better AuthBetter Auth is free, MIT-licensed, self-hosted, and absorbed the actual Auth.js/NextAuth team in September 2025 — for most projects it's simply the right, no-counterparty-risk choice. Solidus doesn't replace it; the plugin that would let them compose isn't built yet.next-auth alternative →
Solidus Identity
The holder wallet: where a person keeps a did:solidus and the credentials issued to it. These are our real peers — several are DIF colleagues.
- vs MattrMattr is the credential platform banks and governments already trust; Solidus is the open protocol underneath, for buyers who'd rather hold their own keys than rent Mattr's.mattr alternative →
- vs walt.idwalt.id gives you a full OID4VC issuer/wallet/verifier stack to run yourself. Solidus gives you the same standards plus the network and the KYC issuer already running underneath.walt.id alternative →
- vs TalaoTalao is the deepest EUDI-aligned Wallet-as-a-Service running in Europe today. Solidus pairs the same standards with a network and SDK Talao doesn't have, at the cost of no live deployment.talao alternative →
- vs Credo TSCredo TS is excellent, EUDI-embedded infrastructure — and it's a library. Every project built on it still stands up its own network, issuer, and trust registry. Solidus ships all three already running.credo-ts alternative →
- vs TrinsicTrinsic has rebuilt its business model twice since 2019 chasing product-market fit in SSI. The protocol underneath Solidus doesn't change shape every two years.trinsic alternative →
Solidus Agents
AI-agent identity. An ERC-8004 passport on Base Sepolia resolves to a did:solidus DID on our public RPC — a checkable artifact, not a roadmap slide.
- vs zkMezkMe proves the same kind of claim we do — but stores it as a soulbound token bound to the agent's own address, not a W3C-anchored, portable credential.zkme alternative →
- vs CrossmintCrossmint already does KYC for agents — but the credential lives inside Crossmint's custody, so every relying party outside Crossmint re-verifies from scratch.crossmint alternative →
- vs Coinbase AgentKitAgentKit gives an agent a wallet and, via x402, a way to pay — it does not give the agent anything a third party can verify beyond 'this address exists.'coinbase agentkit alternative →
Solidus Pod
Personal data storage. Our Pod is Solid-compatible and migration-ready.
- vs InruptInrupt runs the same protocol with an enterprise trust story we don't have yet; we're betting a chain-anchored DID is worth more than a WebID over a multi-year horizon — a bet, not a result.inrupt alternative →
- vs VanaVana pools your data into a Data DAO and sells access to it; Solidus Pod holds a credential you keep and re-present yourself — different products solving different problems, not a feature race.vana alternative →
Solidus Node
Running a node: architecture-preview pages for identity-gated validators.
- vs AllnodesAllnodes runs the node for you, today, on 97 chains, for real money; Solidus Node is a self-run, identity-gated validator architecture on a public testnet — a different question, not a switch decision, until a mainnet exists to switch to.allnodes alternative →
- vs EverstakeEverstake is a top-tier delegated-staking operator with hundreds of thousands of retail delegators across 130+ chains (claimed; ~70+ verifiable per its own brief); Solidus Node proposes a different validator-eligibility model — identity-bound, not just key-bound — that doesn't exist as a production option yet.everstake alternative →
Solidus Network
The identity-L1 peers. The answer to "another identity L1?" is a bill of materials, not a claim.
- vs ConcordiumConcordium is our closest framing rival — their tagline is almost ours. The real difference is not the pitch: it is that our method is registered in a public registry, our products are reachable, and our standards are someone else’s.concordium alternative →
- vs cheqd Networkcheqd built the clearest commercial thesis for an SSI L1 — pay-per-credential micropayments — and did:cheqd beat did:solidus into the W3C registry by years. Our wedge isn't a better token story; it's a shipped vertical product cheqd, by its own account, doesn't sell.cheqd alternative →
- vs KILT ProtocolKILT is the architectural precedent did:solidus's own W3C registry submission cites — same category, same DID-method model, six years earlier. The gap between us is production maturity, not design, and KILT has earned the word "audited" in a way we have not.kilt protocol alternative →
- vs Billions NetworkBillions Network, formerly Polygon ID, is the best-funded ZK-identity project in the world with real enterprise customers. Its iden3/Circom proof format is proprietary to its own ecosystem; a Solidus credential is a W3C Verifiable Credential any relying party can check without adopting that ecosystem.billions network alternative →
- vs WorldcoinWorldcoin proves you are a unique human, once, using proprietary iris-scanning hardware. Solidus's architecture issues W3C Verifiable Credentials for identity attributes — age, citizenship, verification status — with no biometric capture step in the flow. This is a foil comparison, not a feature bake-off Solidus is close to winning.worldcoin alternative →
