AnonCreds

AnonCreds is a credential format built around anonymous-credential cryptography: the holder proves statements about a credential without revealing the credential itself, and repeated presentations cannot be correlated.
What it got right early
Unlinkable presentation and predicate proofs, in production pilots, years before the W3C credential stack had a comparable answer. Someone holding an AnonCreds credential could prove they were over eighteen without revealing a birth date and without the verifier being able to recognise them next time.
What it cost
Tight coupling to a specific ledger and toolchain, and a format outside the W3C data model that other ecosystems did not adopt. The v2.0 work moving toward BBS-family signatures is the community's answer to exactly that, and it converges on the same mathematics Solidus already uses.
Where Solidus sits
Not implemented, and the consequence is concrete: an organisation with an existing Indy or AnonCreds deployment cannot use Solidus credentials without a bridge that does not exist.

Maintained by the AnonCreds Working Group under LF Decentralized Trust, formerly Hyperledger. Version 1.0 is specified; version 2.0 is in development and moves toward BBS-family signatures. It is the credential format most deployed self-sovereign identity pilots were built on, particularly those using Hyperledger Indy.
